and Evansville Community Children's Choir/Youth Chorale Alumni Webpage!

The U of E Children's Choir was formed in 1977 through the Preparatory School of the Music Department, and Barbara Matzigkeit was hired as the founding director. Students of Mrs. Matzigkeit were introduced to a strict regime of musical theory and diction coaching. Singers became experienced with singing in multiple languages at a very early age and traveled to Europe visiting England, Wales, and Belgium in 1983. In 1986, with the help of a Board made up of parents of Choir members, the Evansville Community Children's Choir and Youth Chorale was formed. During the ECCC years, the choir traveled to Washington D.C. and Germany. Many alumni will remember summers spent in New Harmony, Indiana during the annual Summer Music Festivals. Everyone involved in the choirs can certainly look back on those experiences fondly, and appreciate the friends that were made through their mutual love of music fostered by Barbara Matzigkeit.

It has been over thirty years since Mrs. Matzigkeit began her quest to make a musical difference in the lives of so many young singers, and 2008 marks the 25th anniversary of the University of Evansville Children's Choir England Tour. Barbara and several of her former students are now on a new quest: We are trying to track down all of the former members of these three choirs for a series of reunion concerts over the Independence Day weekend in Evansville, Indiana.

We have three concerts planned over the holiday weekend. We will perform first before the fireworks display on July 4th along the riverfront near the Four Freedom's Monument. On July 5th, we will perform an informal concert in our favorite summer getaway, New Harmony and have a dinner party at the Red Geranium. Finally, on July 6th, we will give a farewell performance at Trinity United Methodist Church - the common rehearsal and performance site for the ECCC and Youth Chorale.
