Evansville Civic Theatre's Evansville Civic Theatre kicked off it's spectacular 81st Season with the sixth in the Nunsense Series: Nunsensations - The Nunsense Vegas Revue. Our sold out weekend crowds howled with laughter as those wacky nuns paraded and cavorted about the stage, joking, laughing and singing their way out of yet another predicament. Special thanks goes out to Dick Engbers who came out of retirement to direct the nuns once again in what has become a Civic Theatre Tradition. And with that, we wish to let the Civic Theatre Tradition continue with three more productions along the same vein of what our audiences have come to expect over the years. New Managing Artistic Director Lynn Kinkade took the helm with Bus Stop in December and will move on to direct the remaining two regular season shows, Visiting Mr. Green and Over The Tavern. Additionally, Civic Theatre introduces ECT: NEXTWAVE - our new series of educational productions - shows that are approached with the same professional quality as our regular season shows and designed to educate not only our performers, but also our audiences. Director of Education, Christopher Tyner heads up these upcoming productions. The latest additions to our lineup of exciting shows for 2006-2007 have just been announced! First up is a wonderful opportunity for the family, and a craze that has been sweeping the nation in recent years. The Sound of Music finds its way to Evansville Civic Theatre this summer in the form of Sing-Along Sound of Music. Civic Theatre will present the film in it's entirety along with captions and a bag full of goodies to use during the show. Come dressed as your favorite character from the show or even a "brown paper package tied up with strings" and bring the whole family to this great escape! Later this summer, one of today's most sought after musicals makes its' premiere on the main stage at Civic Theatre. The Last 5 Years will be the debut of Civic Theatre: Other Voices - a new program to introduce our audiences to an alternative faire of shows that would normally not be seen in our regular season.

Over The
Tavern Sponsored by Koch Air & Bristol-Myers Squibb/Mead Johnson Nutritionals
Set in 1959 in Buffalo. Rudy, a 12-year-old parochial student, has suddenly discovered that questioning your faith is part of growing up, even when your tavern-owner parents would do anything to keep you from doing so. When Sister Clarissa, a seventy-year-old nun of formidable might, shows up on their doorstep, they are desperate to appear as the perfect Catholic family. This intelligently irreverent comedy about growing up Catholic in 1950’s America is a beguiling and hilarious tale with humor, heart and hope. |

SING ALONG SOUND OF MUSIC June 8, 9, 10*, 15, 16, 17* Have you ever been to a film musical and had the uncontrollable urge to burst into song? Sing-a-long-a Sound of Music is your chance to test your vocal range with countless other assorted nuns, Von Trapp family members and Julie Andrews look-a-likes. The evening begins with a live show in which your host will lead you through a vocal warm-up, judge the fancy dress competition and award the prizes. Costumes are not compulsory but they are highly recommended and you will be amazed at the inventiveness on display. The host will then show you how to use your free goody bag throughout the film and suggest some appropriate heckles and accompanying actions (such as hissing the countess, barking at Rolf and, of course, cheering for Julie). Then, you sit back and watch the original 1965 movie in glorious Technicolor ™ with the lyrics for all the songs on the screen, so you won’t miss a chance to sing your hearts out. The audience takes over as the star of the show from this point and almost anything can happen – the first rule of Sing-a-long-a is THERE ARE NO RULES!
